چکیده

Exogenous application of acetaldehyde (AA) vapour (5000 ppm for 18 h) to peeled avocado fruits prior to storage caused inhibition of fruit ripening. This inhibition was characterized by a delay in fruit softening and reduction in ethylene production. Moreover, addition of 1aminocyclopropane-l-carboxylic acid (ACC), the precursor of ethylene, to avocado disks (in situ) or to avocado extract (in vitro) showed that AA reduced ethylene production by inhibiting ACC oxidase activity. CO2 production and protein levels were the same in the control and treated disks. The levels of total free sulfhydryl (SH) group compounds increased, although the total amino acids level was reduced during ripening of the AA-treated avocado. AA treatment inhibited fruit pulp oxidation, while the control fruits oxidized and became brown.

Induction of Ethylene Biosynthesis in Nicotiana tabacum

Xylanase (EIX) from the fungus Trichoderma viride elicits ethylene biosynthesis in leaf tissues of Nicotiana tabacum cv Xanthi but not in cv Hicks. The increase in ethylene biosynthesis is accompanied by an accumulation of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC), an increase in extractable ACC synthase activity, and increases in ACC synthase and ACC oxidase transcripts. Priming of leaves wi...

1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate oxidase activity limits ethylene biosynthesis in Rumex palustris during submergence.

Submergence strongly stimulates petiole elongation in Rumex palustris, and ethylene accumulation initiates and maintains this response in submerged tissues. cDNAs from R. palustris corresponding to a 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) oxidase gene (RP-ACO1) were isolated from elongating petioles and used to study the expression of the corresponding gene. An increase in RP-ACO1 messenger wa...

Pistil-Specific and Ethylene-Regulated Expression of 1-Aminocyclopropane-1-Carboxylate Oxidase Genes in Petunia Flowers.

The differential expression of the petunia 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) oxidase gene family during flower development and senescence was investigated. ACC oxidase catalyzes the conversion of ACC to ethylene. The increase in ethylene production by petunia corollas during senescence was preceded by increased ACC oxidase mRNA and enzyme activity. Treatment of flowers with ethylene led t...

The role of the embryo and ethylene in avocado fruit mesocarp discoloration

Chilling injury (CI) symptoms in avocado (Persea americana Mill.) fruit, expressed as mesocarp discoloration, were found to be associated with embryo growth and ethylene production during cold storage. In cvs Ettinger and Arad most mesocarp discoloration was located close to the base of the seed and was induced by ethylene treatment in seeded avocado fruit. However, ethylene did not increase me...

Ethylene metabolism in Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) shoots during the year.

Ethylene evolution, concentrations of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) and ACC conjugates, activities of ACC synthase and ACC oxidase, and cambial growth as measured by tracheid production were monitored from November to July in 1-year-old shoots, and between July and September in current-year shoots, of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.). Needles, buds and four stem parts (cortex, phl...
